Isolagen sells Swiss site to Swatch

Isolagen Inc. said Monday that it sold its site in Switzerland for $6.4 million.

A spokesman for the Exton, Pa., based skin-care products company (AMEX:ILE) said the site is an empty warehouse that was part of the company's discontinued operations. The buyer was Switzerland-based watch manufacturer the Swatch Group, the spokesman said.

Chairman Nicholas L. Teti Jr. said the proceeds "will enable us to further pursue the implementation of our business plan for 2008."

Isolagen sells anti-aging and acne treatment products and is developing treatments for acne scars and wrinkles that would involve tissue rejuvenation.

Food myuths EXPOSED

When Gail Schalizki was a child, her mom made her wait 30 minutes after eating to get back in the swimming pool.

Schalizki said that was torture. The mother of three lets her children get in after eating because there's really no basis for that rule.

Now a certified nutritionist and owner of Nutritional Education Center in New Salem, Schalizki has more knowledge about food and health and how it affects the body.

But she did learn a lot as she searched the Internet trying to debunk a few old wives tales and food myths.

"There were a lot more that had truth to them than I thought there were," she said.

Schalizki said that old wives' tales are mostly false and were used to discourage children from unwanted behavior. But some more recent subjects thought to be myths are really true.

If you plan to tan this summer, or even if tanning is a thing from the past, two studies released Monday will help people evaluate their risk of developing melanoma.

A study published in JAMA Archives confirmed that skin lesions which measure 6mm or more are twice as likely to be cancerous as lesions less than 6 mm, or about one-fourth of an inch in diameter.

NYU researchers base their findings on a study of more than 1,300 patients. .

From the Archives: Dan's Mom on Amputee Attraction

Hey, everybody: If you missed last week's column, I'm taking a week off because, well, go read last week's column if you care to know. Here's an old column—from May 24, 1995—to tide you over until my return next week. It not only features my mother, but also my boyfriend's very first mention in the column. And as you'll see, last week wasn't the first time I gave Mom the credit for my very curious career. —Dan

Q. You recently wrote something about people who "are only attracted to amputees." Well, I personally have been attracted to female amputees for as long as I can remember. Have other people written you about this amputee-attraction phenomenon? I get very excited when I come across a single-legged girl crutching along or encounter a pretty young woman with an empty sleeve dangling where an arm should be.
